Nandita Saikia’s research focuses on geographic and socioeconomic disparity in mortality in India. Nandita’s PhD dissertation addressed the level, trends, determinants and causes of adult mortality in India in past four decades. She has worked on mortality disparity across socio-economic and geographical characteristics in India in recent years.
Together with IIASA colleagues, Nandita is also working on the impact of air quality on health and mortality, with a specific emphasis on spatial variation. Here her aim is to produce the most robust estimate of deaths in India due to poor quality of air.
Moreover Nandita is working on current and future trajectory of old age mortality pattern in India.
